works 1970's 80's ..... ' one cannot escape the impression that Knudsen's works are essays in personal metaphysics. The geometry of the lines, grids, arcs; their weight, their disposition and intersection; the way space is opened up, enclosed, divided, held down, extended, implied by them are like corollaries in an unstated, personal logic examining the universe. Colour separates the panels yet joins them; announces and sets the tone for the argument. The brushwork is expressive, at once lyrical and eloquent, at once crude and tortured. It reveals and discloses, it covers and makes dense. The diptych format disposes the viewer to a sense of causal relationships between the panels, argument and counter argument, hot and cold, positive and negative, dialogue neutralizing to harmony, narrative becoming chapters on the nature of experience.'
